The Royal College Ophthalmologists
– Eye Surgeons’ professional body
Full service PR since 2005
The College is responsible for the education and training of eye surgeons and also advises Government and other public bodies on matters of healthcare relating to ophthalmology.
The brief: To maximise interest and coverage in the College's annual Congress 2006, and provide general guidance on press matters.
What we did: Invited local VIPs to The College's charity World Sight Day event held in Norwich Cathedral in October - including the Canaries Chairman. We continue to advise the College on matters relating to press coverage of their policy on areas such as waiting lists and Independent Sector Treatment Centres (ISTCs).
In May 2006, we achieved massive overage of the College’s announcement that cigarette packets should carry the warning ‘Smoking causes blindness’ on Radio One, Radio Five, BBC World Service, the BBC News website, Daily Mail, Observer and five regional publications.

We are working on an on-going basis with the College on publicising their views on the role of Independent Sector Treatment Centres (IS-TCs) in treating NHS patients and so far, have had coverage on Channel Four News, Trevor McDonald Tonight and The Express newspaper.
